HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)

HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is a form of cardiovascular exercise which starts with a warm up period of exercise ranging from 1-2 minutes then followed short bursts of all out effort for usually around 30 seconds to 1 minute but this can be adjusted according to fitness level and the exercise you are performing. A session of HIIT training can last anywhere between 5 – 30 minutes.

The main benefits of this form of training is that it can improve your cardiovascular conditioning, raise your metabolism and allow you to burn calories up to 24 hours after you have performed the exercise due to the rise in your metabolic levels.

There are other forms of cardiovascular training which I will go into more detail in my future blogs, but for me HIIT is by far the best cardiovascular training method purely because of the ease of use and incorporating it into other forms of training for example circuit training is a classic example of HIIT training being at its most prevalent because of the stop start nature of most circuit exercises which is probably the best form of exercise to use HIIT training with.
